Eclipse 1

I hid from that Eclipse

Decided to duck & Cover

Like I was taught

When I was 7 Years old

In the basement like it was a bomb shelter

Listening to the reports on the Short-Wave radio.

Back in 1962 our family always went down there

For hurricanes and Missile Crisis

So I tested out old, tangled strands of Christmas lights

Remembering that one time when Cuba was heating up

In late October after coming home from St. Agnes in second grade

I asked “Mommy is the world going to end ?”

And she replied “Well kiddo if it does- there’s nothing we can do about it

Besides the world ends for somebody everyday.”

A year later in 1963 in November broad daylight

They blew Kennedy’s head off  into Jackies lap in the Dallas Street

And his world ended.

Was thinking if we had still been together

On a day like this we probably would have spent the entire day in bed

Drinking Coffee-then Beer, smoking reefer & butts, eating pizza

Talking, laughing & fucking for hours as the sky went black in the

Middle of the afternoon.

So there is this leather lung plastered fan underneath the live TV feed microphone

Launching into a slurred wobbly version of Meet the Mets during the 11^th inning

Of an overcast 45 degree temperature as the Tigers tack on a 3 spot to put the game

Away on ice as everybody else heads for the exits and the 7 Train.

The night I was being a really rude smart ass and you had finally had enough

And slapped my face at the Bar. Rubbing my stinging check I doubled down

Take Them to the Zoo

Earth my friends is really in fact a Universal Zoo.

They put everything on the Planet and recently installed

Cyber Media as our cage/gate keeper like an orbiting satellite

Perimeter electric boundary fence.  

Aristotle spoke of the concept of Pity

While e.e. cummings added-

Pity this busy monster mankind-not.

Most insects are doing time here because of the first deadly sin Pride

Because back on their planet this was their crime and in order to teach them

A lesson They made all miniature- shrunk down from sizes that ranged from

Cocker Spaniels to Volkswagens – The Ants & Stinging Bees got the worst of it

The Hopi Indian tribe referred to life on the Zoo Earth as  Koyaanisqatsi

Life out of Balance

All life on the Earth Zoo is inter-dimensional refuges born/sent here

Only to have the hope to be returned to their planets if they behave

And repent their actions/crimes.

The big question of course is there salvation ?

Can we trained ?

Are we Salvage-able ?

While we are exhibited here to the rest of the universe

As a cosmic object lesson in rough justice.

And yes- of course

We are visited frequently

By estranged galactic relatives

They miss us.

Some feel sorry for us

Some still like us

After all we do in fact make such cute babies

However there are the others who hate us

We just make them hungry

They like to eat us

Nothing personal you understand

It’s just on the Alien Cannibal menu

We are considered Veal and make tasty Lamb Chops.

Wondering about all the Dogs & Cats ?

They were once the Kings & Queens of their domain

But just couldn’t get alone with each other- they were constantly fighting

So all of them were both struck dumb- silenced their articulate vocabulary

Only left to bark & meow

.All the earth’s fish ( including whales, dolphins, and otters) are part of an immense

Aquatic aquarium and the owner’s want it back  

(remind me some day to tell you about all the jelly fish- that’s an especially sad story)

So the good news is I guess (if there is any)

They will never allow us to Nuke the Planet to a crisp

Cripes- that would close up the Zoo

Face it the entire collection is just GD valuable

And besides they really like their Zoo.

Guess your probably wondering at this point

Just who they are & just who in hell do they think they are ?

Exactly.
