The Light in August on the Sound
In August in Mississippi there’s a few days somewhere about the middle of the month when suddenly there’s a foretaste of fall, it’s cool, there’s a lambence, a soft, a luminous quality to the light, as though it came not from just today but from back in the old classic times. It might have fauns and satyrs and the gods and—from Greece, from Olympus in it somewhere. It lasts just for a day or two, then it’s gone. . .the title reminded me of that time, of a luminosity older than our Christian civilization.”
― William Faulkner, Light in August

Sonic Aquarium
Your August ears kissed kneel in noon genuflection
Resounding last look on that day full sunshine echo warmth
Everything was exploding in concussions
The mad bird frenzy fucking/ building nests upon the motion
Lights over the garage like incubators
Engines roar bad exhaust pipes somewhere
in hot pursuit sirens wobble
Bells chime as a crow laughs
From down the block children shriek
The sidewalks echo in basketballs bouncing
Towards the courts net less orange hoops
Your August ears kissed knelt in noon genuflection
Submersing you in the bottom of a sonic aquarium
